Coronavirus (COVID 19)

This is a message from Reeve Marcel Auger of the MD of Opportunity #17 and Chief Silas Yellowknee of Bigstone Cree Nation on Coronavirus (COVID 19).

These preparations are based on recommendations from Alberta Health and Canada Health.

At this time Alberta is categorized as low risk; however, we cannot overstate the importance of personal hygiene, mainly washing hands often, minimizing touching your face and avoiding large gatherings.

Your two local governments met on March 12th and a follow up meeting with community representatives on March 13th to create awareness of COVID 19.

From this meeting, a working committee has been established to continue awareness preparation.

Just a reminder if you have flu like symptoms, do not go to the Doctor or hospital/clinic but call 811 and stay at home. There is a link on Alberta Health Services website for a self-assessment tool; or go to 19 for more information.

At this time, all gathering at MD facilities hosting tournaments and community events have been postponed or canceled. This is based on the recommendations from the Province.

In conclusion reminder to wash hands often, do not touch your face, no hugs or handshakes, avoid large gatherings.
